Out of every 100 diamonds mined, 80% are of industrial quality, not
eligible for jewelry. Of the remaining 20% considered gem quality, one
million are mined before a 1ct is obtained. For a 2ct diamond, 5
million are mined before one of these is obtained. This tells you how
incredibly rare diamonds are!
Diamond is approximately 140% harder then the next hardest substance
known to man. Everything else wears out, but a diamond is the
only substance unaffected by age. You can wear it 24 hours a day,
7 days a week, for decades upon decades before passing it down
to the next generation, and it will be in the same sparkling condition
as when you received it!
Nothing is older than diamonds. They are carbon dated at 3.4
billion years old! Yet, they look brand new. Compared to what people
pay for antiques, a diamonds value is priceless!
Diamond cutters have hands as skilled as surgeons. They must serve
as apprentices for 10 years before they can even touch a 1ct diamond.
90% of all diamonds are cut to retain maximum weight - sacrificing
brilliance and beauty. only 10% are cut to fine make, and only
one tenth of 1% are cut to ideal standards! The better the cut,
the more expertly skilled the cutter must be, and the more beautiful
the diamond will be.
